Safeguarding at Sophyra Tutors

How we vet our tutors.

A five-step process designed to keep every student safe and every lesson worth the family's investment.

The process

Five steps. No shortcuts.

Every tutor in our pool has worked through every step below before they are matched with their first student. The order matters.

01

Qualifications and career check.

We verify subject qualifications, teaching credentials, and degree certificates against the issuing institution. Where the tutor claims Qualified Teacher Status, we verify it directly. Career experience, including dates and roles, is verified against the employers named. Qualifications and career history are verified against documentary evidence before the tutor reaches the next step.

02

Subject-knowledge interview.

A structured interview with a subject specialist already on our panel. We test depth of knowledge, exam-board familiarity, and the ability to explain a difficult concept in more than one way.

03

Trial teaching session.

A 45-minute teaching trial against a real syllabus, observed by Joseph Russell-Bishop, our Founder and Sciences Lead. We grade pedagogy, classroom presence, and the ability to listen as much as the ability to explain.

04

DBS or equivalent police check.

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate for UK-based tutors. Equivalent national police checks for tutors based overseas. We hold the certificate on file and renew it on the schedule the issuing authority requires.

05

Reference verification.

At least two professional references, contacted by phone, not by email. We speak to the referee directly, ask structured questions about reliability and integrity, and document the conversation in the tutor file.

Safeguarding leadership

An Education Adviser and DSL.

Natalia Ambridge is our Education Adviser and DSL, Level 3 qualified. Twenty years of international school-leadership experience across the United Kingdom, Azerbaijan, Oman, and Türkiye anchors every safeguarding decision we make.

Every tutor file is reviewed by Natalia before it is opened. Every safeguarding concern raised by a student or family is escalated to Natalia within the same working day.

Ongoing standards

Vetting does not end at lesson one.

A tutor's standing with Sophyra Tutors is reviewed every half-term against three criteria: progress against the student's plan, family feedback, and any safeguarding signal raised during the term.

Tutors who fall short are notified. Tutors who fall short twice are replaced. We hold that line because families who come to us have committed real money and real time to their child's education, and they deserve a tutor who is on top of the work.

Ready when you are.

Talk to us before you commit to anything.

Thirty minutes, no obligation. We listen to where your child is, where they need to be, and the time you have to get there. By the end of the call you will know whether we are the right fit, and we will say so either way.
